Vision
Years ago I was walking with my friend in our village of Dibben, located in the only protected forest reserve in Jordan. We were admiring its beautiful nature, old cobble stone roads, and its gorgeous old homes and buildings. As we were passing by our old Baptist church, we saw its ruins, and it immediately brought tears to my eyes. This church was a community staple that brought families together and provided hope and light to many.
This is the first Baptist church and school ever established in Jordan in the early 1950s. It played a big role in witnessing to our people and the villages around, and many accepted the Lord as their savior at this very location. It also educated many children and provided them with the tools they needed to succeed in life. It was a light in the darkness for all people in the surrounding area and a destination for many who drove miles to seek refuge at the church.
The idea of reconstructing and reviving the old church and building a community around it came to my mind. A place where Christians, young and old, will come for a Spiritual renewal in a quiet and beautiful atmosphere, for evangelism and discipleship. I brought this up to my church in Jerash and we all got excited about the project and ended up forming a committee to drive progress on this initiative. I asked my brother Deyab Oweis to help us fund raise in the US to help get this project off the ground. Deyab Oweis, in partnership with Richard Glass, established the nonprofit organization (501c3) named ‘Ladder To Hope’ to provide the appropriate structure of fundraising.
It has been fifteen years since we started this process. Many people who lived in Dibben in their early lives have already contributed to this project many times over the years. We are happy to announce the construction plans are ready and the permit has been approved to start building.
